2021 camp dates are here!
A Word from Camp:
To look forward to 2021, we also look back. We look back to a LONG history of camping onsite and the Lord’s faithful provision and direction for the ministry at the West Virginia Baptist Camp at Cowen. While many details about the upcoming year remain unclear, what is clear is our desire to fulfill the mission of being a place “where people meet Jesus and grow as His disciples in a community of faith. “
The following schedule represents our whole-hearted desire to program for these age groups on these specific dates, however, the details of how any particular week will operate is still to be decided as we continue to consult experts, make prudent decisions regarding health and safety, and seek the Lord’s wisdom. Publishing this schedule allows churches and families who are looking to make plans for 2021 to know when Camp Cowen will be offering programming for different ages whether onsite, through creative scheduling, or all virtual.
What might camp look like in 2021? Here is a tiered approach to thinking about this coming summer:
Tier 1: Week-long camping that looks (for the most part) like what we’re used to, overnight camps lasting most of the week.
Tier 2: Small Group Camping Experiences: a Sunday through Tuesday overnight group, with a Wednesday only session, and then a Thursday through Saturday group.
Tier 3: preparing for “wild card” possibilities like day experiences, family camps, church groups, etc. The year 2020 taught us a lot about the value of bringing more of the camp experience to our homes and churches so look for us to build upon what we learned as we continue to develop Camp-in-a-Box for the future.
As always, we value our campers, families and churches! If you have any questions about the camping program, please contact: Jill Narraway 304-210-7030 jill@wvbc.org.

Summer 2020 Schedule Update
The Cowen Board met on June 2nd and, after much guidance and prayer, has agreed to suspend all scheduled children and youth camps at Camp Cowen for this summer.
As a place "where people meet Jesus and grow as his disciples in a community of faith," it brings us great sadness that we will not be able to host the nearly 2000 campers that we have every summer. However, we also want to prioritize the safety of our campers, our counselors, our staff, and the Cowen community. We also want to abide by the recommendations provided to us by the governor and the Center for Disease Control. As time goes on, we will continue to keep you updated on events or opportunities we are able to host that follow current guidelines and are in line with prudent practices.
This means in addition to the May and June camps, High School 1, Junior High 2, High School 2, Raleigh Rockcastle Camp, Family Camp and Older Midler will not be running this summer.
We are thankful to continue to connect with campers, families and churches through Camp-in-a-Box! And we appreciate your support!
If you have any questions regarding the suspension of camp programming, please contact us at jill@wvbc.org

Celebrating 77 years of ministry!
Sunny Day Building Project
The Sunny Day Leadership and Activities Center will house three classrooms and a gymnasium facility. The hope for the new facility is to honor the leaders who have gone ahead of us by continuing the training necessary for church leadership to thrive in the future. With three separate classrooms, leadership training for extra campers will be able to occur simultaneously with camps that are already established during the summer. The gymnasium area will also provide a place for indoor activities to occur when the weather gets rough as well as an area for athletic groups to utilize and potentially be brought face-to face with the Gospel message.
Funds are still being raised and needed for the new facility but the location of the building is ready. As you consider how this new ministry can impact the youth in your church and how it can minister to churches and groups individually, please prayerfully consider how you can be part of the development in ministry at Camp Cowen.
For more information on the new facility and for a video to share with your church, click on the button above.
